On the far right post is a hawk that has been hanging around the back yard for the last two weeks. He showed up about the same time we started feeding the birds on the deck.
Several hours later Shadow shows up with a wing that looks oddly like the feathers of the same hawk this morning.
I guess the old man can still hunt.

Well, looks like Shadow has a purpose after all. Looks like you (or the birds) owe him a tennis ball or two.
ReplyDeleteSure hope you rescued those feathers. They'll add so much to the hawk I know you're planning to carve and enter at the next county fair.
ReplyDeleteIt's Sunday night. Any hawk sightings over the weekend?
ReplyDeleteSo far no sign of any hawks. The dogs continue to chew on about a half a dozen feathers laying all over the yard.
ReplyDeleteCan't say for sure but looks like Turkey feathers to me.
ReplyDeleteTravis and Diane also think they are turkey feathers.
ReplyDeleteThen what happened to the hawk? Have you spotted a Great Horned Owl around? Do you have lynx? What about great big hawks? FYI, I did a bit of research. It appears that hawks often hang around for a few months, and then leave the area, back to their nesting grounds. Apparently you were fortunate to see that hawk, because they make a pass at the feeder and fly off. The kind of hawk that visit feeders are call Cooper's Hawks! Just in case anyone was interested.
