Ready to bale the hay.

We were able to get 8 bales of hay from our land. Tom said that this is about 2/3 the size of a normal bale of hay and is about 1200 lbs.
A snack size or a Happy meal for cows. One of these will feed about 40 cows a day.

Making the hay bales.

After the field is raked you get neat rows of hay.

Morgan is inspecting the quality of the hay. This field had lots of clover.

  1. Round bales! At least Travis won't be making you load square bales into the haymow.

Since you're farmers now, I'm sure that you know the difference between round and square bales.

    Here's a tidbit of info:

Square bales are often used in the young stock barn. The milking herd and the older heifers/steers outside are fed round bales. One round bale is equal to 15-20 square bales.
